Expect the Unexpected

Gramps kindly drove us to Boston Logan airport for our flight to Denver.

Since an infant, Paige has frequently gotten car sick. We’d had a dry spell with motion sickness for a while, but then about half-way through the drive from Cape Cod to Logan, Paige said she didn’t feel well. Seconds later, it was all coming up *literally*. We weren’t prepared with our usual barf bag & wipes, so instead my cupped hands were the bag :)

Funny enough, Paige’s timings were fortuitous, because Gramps was able to quickly pull aside into an emergency pull-off area on the highway, the first we’d seen the whole trip! With some quick action on Doug’s part to find plastic bags & napkins in the trunk, we miraculously managed to avoid soiling any parts of Grammy & Gramps’ car! Paige’s favorite flippy sequin t-shirt was a goner (which is saying a lot, given we only have a limited number of clothes with us for the trip in the first place!), but thankfully she was happy as a clam minutes later & we were back on the road.

My takeaway: It reminds me of something I recently read about travel mishaps . . . “They’re not disasters, they’re story-makers.” Paige’s little up-chuck mishap certainly made for a good story :) I have a feeling that lots of our hiccups & detours along the coming months will end up being some of our more memorable moments. So here’s to expecting the unexpected, and being prepared to embrace those moments.
